Engine

  • Use a thermostat in the oiling system to help the temperature get up to optimum quicker. (From Dave Arken)
  • Use a water pressure sensor and light to give warning to the driver shut down immediately if a radiator hose lets go. (From Dave Gomberg)
  • Use an Accusump with a Suzuki GSXR 1000 running a wet sump system. (From Bob Fox and Dave Arken who experienced several oil failure on Squirt)

Chain

  • D.I.D. 530 ZVM - Pete Fowler says, "Used them for 4 years now including several 3-hour enduros. I life them at about 9.5 hours and have never had a chain-related issue of any kind (knock on wood).

Even when I pressed the master link on and then got distracted and forgot to rivet it, it held on there for 2 hours before I noticed it and fixed it!

I use the factory D.I.D. chain tool."

  • RK GXO - Jake Latham says, "I have used RK GXO chains for 3 years now with no issues, and will probably move to a DID chain after seeing how monstrously beefy they look."

Chain Alignment

  • Pete Fowler says, "The way I was shown was to get a length of 1/4" square tube, cut to about 24", and lay this across the tops of each sprocket, at 12 O'clock position. IIRC, the tube can be passed through from the rear, and finagled into place.

Merely sight down this tube (no easy task as there are things in the way) to ensure correct alignment."

  • Jake Latham says, "I use a small laser-level tool called the "Laser Cat" for checking chain alignment. Set it on the rear sprocket, and sweep it forward - tells you exactly how well lined up you are. $100, IIRC."

Chain Lubrication
